Biographical Sketch:
Son of Charles and Betsy Bartholomew. He taught school in Camden Township in 1845. Upon completion of his course at the academy, he worked as a store clerk there and taught a year before studying medicine with Dr. James Mott for 2 years. He practiced medicine in Waddington, NY until he moved to Lansing, MI in 1854. After an illness in 1858, he purchased a grocery and drug business which he operated in partnership with his brother until April 1861 when resumed the practice of medicine. Elected mayor in 1863 and held for 3 terms; pres. of the state medical society 1870-71; second president of the Central Michigan Agricultural Society. Was physician of the Reform School 1870-1. Member of the Masons.
