Biographical Sketch:
Born in Wayne County, New York, he was the 5th of 12 children born to Joseph Luce and Betsey Soverhill. He came to Hillsdale County, Michigan, in 1846. He served nine terms as supervisor of Jefferson; four terms as treasurer; and seven years on the County Board of Superintendents. In the 1870s he was president of Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company.
