Son of David & Sarah (Dibble) Mitchell. 4th of 9 children. Genealogy of the Mitchell family in Rep.Dist. Moved to Michigan with the intent of dealing dry goods, 1838. Did business in Marengo for 5 yrs & held several local posi-tions. Moved to Marshall in 1843-49. County treasurer 1849-Jan. 1853. Held other poitions, then elected mayor, 1861. Very involved in real estate. Died at age 65.
