Biographical Sketch:
Son of Varnum J. and Hannah (Miller) Tefft.He grew up on a farm. In 1861, he enlisted in Company D of the 1st Michigan Infantry, serving for 3 years. He returned home in 1865 to farm. He purchased a farm in Hanover in 1899. He served as justice of the peace for 16 years.

He was wounded in action in January 1863 but served until September 1864.
