Biographical Sketch:
He emigrated to the US in 1827, living first at Paterson, NJ, then in 1829 he went to live on his uncles farm in Stockport, NY. In 1834, he went to sea from New Bedford, MA, on a whaling voyage, and filled all positions on shipboard from boy to master. He commanded the US transport schooner " Heroine," a light-draft vessel during the Mexican war. He came to Michigan in 1847, and purchased a farm in Groveland, Oakland county. After the death of his first wife, he returned t sea for 1 year. He has held various township offices.
