Biographical Sketch:
Son of Joseph W. and Delia S. (Wilson) Churchill. Father was a prominent attorney in the early history of Illinois. Worthy L. moved to Michigan in 1874 to engage in the manufacture of lumber in Alpena. He was a Democrat and was twice elected Mayor of Alpena. In December 1898, he, with friends, organized the Bay City Sugar Company and was chosen president and general manager. He was president of the Alpena Gas Company of Alpena and the senior in the lumber firm of W. L. & H. D. Churchill. He was a Knight of Pythias and Elk; he loved to raise and drive horses.

Notable Facts:
Descendant of Gen. Lovell of Revolutionary fame, his grandfather was General W. L. Churchill of Batavia, NY, well known as an officer in the War of 1812.
