Biographical Sketch:
He enlisted in the 4th Michigan Infantry, Co. H, in 1864 and mustered out as a first lieutenant in 1865. He moved to Wexford County to practice law in 1869. He was appointed prosecuting attorney and held the office until December 1872. He moved from Sherman to Manton in 1877 and went into a lumber business named Brandenburg, Backus & Co shortly before it failed. Afterward, he dealt in pine lands.
