Biographical Sketch:
Son of Asa and Laney (Pixley) Hewitt. He moved, with his family, to Allegany County and then to Ontario County, NY. As a young man he did farm labor and taught school. He came to Michigan in 1844 and settled on a farm in Allen township. He held several township offices and was president of the Hillsdale County Agricultural Society.
