Biographical Sketch:
5th son of Justus and Hannah (Thorpe) Alvord of MA. Moved to OH in 1842; spent youth in Mill Creek twp, OH. While attending scholl in Illinois, he worked as rodman in the surveys done for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. he worked briefly for his father-in-law in his Hamer, IL dry goods store. Eventually settled in Camden, Hillsdale Co., MI Feb.26, 1857. He first constructed an ashery then purchased goods to establish a business which he operated until 1869 when he purchased nearby farmland. He farmed until 1882 when he moved to the village of Camden. He served as township clerk 4 times and was assessor for the school district for 12 years. He was a Mason and Odd Fellow
