Biographical Sketch:
Son of Smith & Louisa (McGee) Colwell. Went into business with his brother, Benjamin, for several yrs. In 1870, bought a lumber business. Enlisted in Co. A, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry, 1863; served as Quartermaster-sgt the 1st sgt. Later re-enlisted in Co. F, 21st Infantry for Pennsylvania. Commissioned to 2nd Lt.; after being wounded served as an army clerk. He was living in Sharon, PS in 1870. Came to Michigan's U.P., 1872.
