Biographical Sketch:
Son of David C and Margaret (Smith?) FletcherGrew up on a farm; taught briefly in Hamilton, Ont., 1868 and 1869; wrote editorial columns for the Hamilton Evening Times. Moved to Michigan 1870 & taught in the district school for a time until beginning studying law in Grand Rapids in 1871. Admitted to the bar, 1873. He had a successful practice in partnership with George P. Wanty in Grand Rapids. He served on the Grand Rapids School Board and was a one term member of the Board of Control of the Kalamazoo Asylum for the Insane.

Notable Facts:
Never held a public office until elected representative. Committed suicide; he cut his throat; suffered from nervous exhaustion and overwork.
