Biographical Sketch:
3rd son of Richard & Hannah (Toogs) Knight. 1 of 7 children. Orphaned at an early age. Apprenticed to an uncle who was a blacksmith, worked as a blacksmith for 18 years. Emigrated to Woodstock, Ontario, 1850 and later to Stratford, ON; 1857 emigrated to Engle township, Waukasha Co., WI & began a carriage-making business; came to Michigan, 1861, moved to Banks, Antrim Co., MI, Grand Traverse region to farm, 1863. Held several local offices including treasurer, sheriff and justice of the peace [16 years].

Notable Facts:
An abolitionist. Death certificate gives parents' names as John and Emily (Took) Knight.
