Biographical Sketch:
Emigrated to Detroit with his parents as a child, around 1842 or 45. Enlistd in the 24th Michigan Infantry. Promoted to Full Corporal on 01 Aug 1863. Promoted to Full Sergeant on 01 Jun 1865. Wounded at Gettysburg, PA & the Wilderness, VA. Taken prisoner (at battle of Weldon Road) for 6 & a half months. Released & mustered out with his regiment in Detroit 7/1/1865. He was a clerk and pilot of the lakes and rivers of Michigan for 18 years. He was commissioner of Parks and Boulevards in Detroit, 1901; Wayne Co. Register of Deeds, 2 years. He was a member of the GAR.

Exact date of birth not known; 1900 Census gives April 1844 as birth. Member of Michigan's Iron Brigade". He was wounded at Gettysburg and the Wilderness (VA). Removed as Parks Commissioner in 1906 when charged with negligence in following contracts withing the dept.
