Son of Eleazer & Elizabeth (Riggs) Pengra. His parents were born in Vermont & England respectively. Member of the 98th Pennsylvania Vol. Inf. Reg. in 1865. Moved to Goodrichville, MI, 1867, trading in medicines & groceries for about 1 yr., returning to farming. . Taught school for 10 yrs in Tuscola & Huron Cos. Began studying law, 1874; admitted to the bar 1878; practiced in Sebewaing. Held several twp offices.
