Biographical Sketch:
Born in Vorie near Hanover, Germany. Son of Ernst & Leonore (Schwerdfeger) Meyer. He apprenticed as a carpenter. Emigrated to Detroit in 1851 working as a carpenter for several years while he cleared land & built a home on property purchased in Fair Haven, St. Clair Co., 1853. Built a shingle mill in 1864, the Swan Creek grist mill in 1875, sold farm equipment; held a few local offices including town treasurer and supervisor [8 years each] and justice of the peace. Acted as census enumerator for his township in 1880
