Biographical Sketch:
Of Welsh descent. Son of Lorenzo & Ruth (Wells) Palmer. Moved to Hudson, MI in 1843. He studied medicine until he enlisted in Co. C, 1st US Sharpshooters in June 1861; November 1861, transferred to the 2nd regiment as hospital steward. In spring 1862, he was attached to Finley General Hospital. He detached from his regiment and attended lectures at Nat'l Med. College & Georgetown College Medical Dept. Returned to his reg. until 10/1864 and was assistant surgeon to the regiment. Prac. medicine for 5 yrs, Jonesville, MI then embarked on various business enterprises, including real estate & publishing, around the state. In 1876 he bought an interest in the Jonesville Independent, which he editied until July 1881 when he moved to Grayling. There he published the Crawford Avalanche, engaged in farming and manufacturing. Admitted to the bar in 1885. Served as prosecuting attorney for at least 3 terms and as register of the US Land Office in Grayling. He was also the superintendent of the US Experimental Station in Grayling. For 4 years he served on the school board. Member of the GAR and the Ancient Order of United Workmen.
