Biographical Sketch:
Son of John and Mary Pitt. He was apprenticed at 14 to a watch engraver. Mechanization drove him from the field after 3 years. He moved into pianoforte manufacturing for several yrs until emigrating, in July, 1848, to Quebec [he arrived in Quebec in October]; arrived in Ionia, MI, June, 1850, working as a carpenter until January, 1853. In 1853, he moved to a farm in Orleans, MI. Server as school inspector, justice of the peace & twp supervisor.
