Biographical Sketch:
Of Scott/Irish descent. Son of Asa and Henrietta (Betts) Wheeler. Moved to Michigan at age 5; moved from Washtenaw Co. to Woodland, Barry Co., after 7 yrs. He taught in district schools for several years before entering the 6th Michigan Cavalry in 1861. Settled in Nashville, MI after the Civil War. Built the 1st general store there. He served on the board of education, the common council and was village treasurer.
