Irish parentage:son of John [or Joseph] and Mary (O'Connor) Barry.He worked for a manufaturer of knitting goods until he went to learn the trade of axe making. He worked at this trade in Pennsylvania and Ontario. He moved from Ontario to Cleveland, OH. He moved to East Saginaw, MI in 1882, working at Michigan Ax and Tool Co.
