Biographical Sketch:
Son of Asa L. and Mercy A. (Sherman) Cossitt. He came to Detroit with his parents, later moving to Wayne, and then to Lansing. He enlisted in the 6th Michigan cavalry, Co. D, Feb. 1865 and served in the army of the Potomac; transferred to First Michigan Cavalry,Co. H in Nov. 1865 and in Utah territory, where he was mustered out of the service March, 1866. Returning to Michigan, he located at Owosso, where he engaged in the foundry and machine business for the over 14 years. In 1881, he was elected mayor and re-elected the following year and was the superintendent of water works at the time of his death.
