Biographical Sketch:
Son of Charles U. and Mary Serepta (West) Cross. He grew up on a farm and assisted his father in a surveying practice. He went to work as assistant in the survey and construction of the C & M LSRR [later known as the Chicago & West Michigan Railway], in May 1870. He remained with the company until January 1872 when he became the assistant engineer for the Buffalo, New York & Philadelphia Railroad; from July, 1872 to April, 1874, he was employed by the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co. as assistant civil and mining engineer in Wilkesbarre, PA. He returned to Bangor, MI in April, 1874 and engaged in real estate and insurance. He served as township clerk, 3 terms. Member of the Masons and served on the committee for the Masonic Home.
