Biographical Sketch:
Of Huguenot, Scottish and Northern Irish descent. Son of Joshua W. and Esther L. (Keyes) Crozer. He moved to Ontonagon in 1857. He trained to be a printer; college was deferred for service in the army. In 1870, he moved to Escanaba and later to Menminee in 1871. He was one of the first volunteers in 1862, in Co. A, 27th Michigan Infantry, known as the Lake Superior regiment. He was color sergeant for the 27th; severely wounded in the battle of the Wilderness. He purchased the Herald in Menominee; over the years he held editorial positions on several newspapers in Michigan. In 1881, he sold his printing offince and engaged in lumbering, as founder and manager of the Bay Shore Lumber Co. He served on the common council of Menominee and was alderman for 9 years; he was director of the First National Bank; president of the Wancedah Lumber and Cedar Co., president of the Watersmeet Lumber Co. and director of the Menominee Electric Light Company, and a member of the Soldiers' Home Board. He was a member of the GAR. In 1896 he was elected Commandant of the Soldiers' Home at Grand Rapids, which he held for 2 years. He served on the common council of the city of Menominee twice.
