Son of Robert and Amelia (Peabody) Eldred. He came to Michigan in 1852. Moved to Tekonsha, MI in November 1885. While working as a carpenter and builder, he became a partner in an agricultural implement business. He served as a justice of the peace [2 years], highway commissioner [13 years] and president of the village of Tekonsha [twice].
