Biographical Sketch:
Son of Carlos D. and Cornelia C. Hampton. His parents moved to Texas in 1858 but returned to Michigan in 1862 after perious years as Unionists in the south. On their return they lived in Hudson until 1866 when they moved to Muir. In 1875 they moved to Harbor Springs, MI. He taught for 2 years in Petoskey and Harbor Springs after finishing college. In 1878, he established the Independent [newspaper].
