Biographical Sketch:
He retired after working as a skilled tradesman at Delphi Corp. for 29 years. He worked as a pipefitter from 1978 to 2006. He was a Genesee County commissioner for 9 years, serving as chair for 7 years, making him the longest continuously serving board chairman in Genesee County history. As chairman, Rep. Hammel established Genesee County’s first Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Emergency Response Team; and brought Automation Alley, a nationally recognized economic development organization, to Genesee County. He also served as a Mount Morris Township Trustee for 4 years. Member of UAW Local 651 Delphi/General Motors since 1978. He previously served on the boards of the United Way, the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce and Automation Alley.
