He served on the Board of Supervisors of Grand Traverse County; the Grand Traverse County Road Commission; and as president of the Board of Education. He Was president of the Northwest Michigan Fair Association; served on the city commission and was mayor of Traverse City. he was a member of the Rotary Club, Elks, Eagles, Farm Bureau and the American Legion.
