He emigarted at 5 with his parents and setteld in Hamilton, Canada. In 1856, they moved to Mooretown, Ontario. In 1870, he settled in Capac, MI and practiced medicine. He served as trustee and president of Capac and township superintendent of schools for Mussey township.
