Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish & Irish descent. Son of Alexander M. and Georgina (Dean) Agens. Moved to Kalamazoo in 1864. He served as township clerk, treasurer and supervisor, and, for 12 years, was assessor of a union school district with five schools. He was chairman of the board of directors of Grange Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. and was was appointed special deputy of the State Grange for the counties of Benzie, Grand Traverse, Lake, Leelanau, Manistee, Mason and Oceana. Member of the Grange and Odd Fellows.
