Biographical Sketch:
He moved with his father to Perry, OH in 1825. He taught at 17. Settled in Sturgis in 1835 and engaged in several occupations. He built many houses and sawmills and a cabinet and chair factory. He negotiated many contracts for railroad material as an agent for the Michigan Southern Railroad. In 1857 he helped organize and direct the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. He served a justice of the peace [10 years] and for several years as supervisor. He was postmaster of Sturgis, 1872-86. In 1860, he started the Surgis 'Journal' and served as editor and publisher until 1872.

Notable Facts:
Descendant of Richard Wait who settled in Watertown, MA in 1637.
