Son of Peter and Catharine (Sebring) Voorheis. He came to Michigan in 1836, living near Ypsilanti for 3 years. He settled in White Lake, Oakland County in 1839 and remained there until his death. He served as Supervisor in 1843, and held that office 7 times, the last in 1876. He was Town Clerk in 1851. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of White Lake,
