Biographical Sketch:
Son of James B. and Nancy Eldredge. The family moved from Greenwich, NY to Lebanon, NY during the winter of 1814-15. Upon the death of his mother he quit he ended his formal studies. He taught school and studied law in a law office in Hamilton until 1826. He moved to Michigan in 1826 and taught school in Detroit. He studied law in Pontiac and taught school there as well. He walked to Mt. Clemens in July 1827. He served as Mt. Clemens clerk. He was admitted to the bar in 1828 and became the only lawyer in Macomb Co. He served as prosecuting attorney in 1832 and Secretary of State 1842-46. Member of the Masons.
