Son of Adam Comstock. Practiced medicine in Cayuga Bridge. Moved to Trumansburg, NY, 1807. Member of the NY State assembly 1810-1812; abandoned the practice of medicine & studied theology; ordained as a Baptist minister; pastor of the First Baptist Church, Rochester, NY, serving from 1825-34; elected Chaplain of the House of Reps., 12/20/1836-3/3/1837; moved to Michigan & resumed ministerial duties at Detroit, 1839. Lived in Ann Arbor while Superintendent.

1st judge common pleas Seneca County, NY, 1812-15; 1st judge of court of common pleas for Tompkins Co., NY 1817 & 1818; 1st postmaster in Trumansburg, NY.
