Son of Samuel & Nancy (Brown) Cook. Apprenticed as a wagon-maker at 19. Moved to Marshall, MI, 1832. Built the county's 1st flour mill, 1837; several yrs later entered the dry goods business for 27 yrs. Retired to farm. Held several local positions. Contributed to but was never a member of the Methodist Church.

Notable Facts:
Sued & fined for resisting the Fugitive Slave Act in 1847, having hidden escaped slaves.
