Of Dutch ancestry. Son of Wilem J. and Maria D. (Minderhout) DeYoung. Moved, with his family, to Crystal Township in 1877. He worked as a lumber inspector for 4 years and was in general merchandise business for 3 years in Fishville. In 1890, he moved to Crystal and was town clerk [6 years] and township treasurer [1 year]. Member of the Knights of the Maccabees.
