Biographical Sketch:
Son of Elisha & Nabbey (Avery) Crary. Graduated from Trinity College, Hartford, Conn., in its first class in 1827. Moved to Marshall, MI, 1833 delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1835; regent of the University of Michigan 1837-1844; editor of the Marshall Expounder for several years. Died in office.

Delegate to Michigan state constitutional convention, 1835 & 1850; U.S. Representative from Michigan Territory at-large, 1837-41; member of U. of Michigan bd of regents, 1837-43. Founded the public-school system of Michigan; member of the State board of education 1850-1852. Speaker of the state house in 1846.in 1846
