Biographical Sketch:
He was a member of the Board of
Regents of the University of Michigan, 1849. He was the son of wealthy parents, studied law, was admitted to the bar, but never practiced due to ill health. He traveled extensively in Europe and India. He came to Hamburg, MI, in 1837, and settled on a farm, later occupied by his only daughter. He was appointed Regent of the University Feb. 2, 1849, but resigned the same year. He was a thor-
oughly educated English gentleman, and received an annuity from England which made him financially independent.
