Son of John and Mary (Mereyhew) Ferris. He moved to Michigan in 1831 and settled in the Athens, MI area of Calhoun Co. He built a hotel in Sherwood twp, Branch Co., in 1840 and operated it for several years. He retired to Athens. Highway commissioner for Branch County in 1858
