Biographical Sketch:
Son of William and Sarah (Large) Skeels. In 1887, he came to Whitehall, MI, where he was employed on a farm for a while. He sailed the Great Lakes for 3 years. For 6 years, he was associated with the Nufer Cedar Company, with
headquarters at Whitehall, MI. In 1899, he allied himself
with the Eagle-Ottawa Tanning Co. where he was an engineer for 11 years. He served as postmaster of Whitehall [1910-14]; village clerk [7 years]; village assessor and township supervisor. He purchased, and became publisher/editor of, the Whitehall Forum in 1914. He was chairman of the county board of supervisors in 1921-22. He was one of the organizers of the Whitehall Mutual Benefit Association, serving several years as its president. Member of the Masons; Odd Fellows [I.O.O.F.]; and Modern Woodmen of America lodges.
