Biographical Sketch:
His first career was in secondary education and he was a substitute teacher in the Cadillac area. He was a member of the Michigan National Guard (ret), and served as a platoon tank commander at the Cadillac Armory. He retired as Chief Executive Officer of Western Concrete in 2006 and continued as a consultant to the company for property management in Big Rapids and Cadillac, as well as doing outside sales for the Hope Network in Cadillac and Paris. In 2003, he was elected to a term as chairman of the Board of the National Concrete Masonry Association, serving 5 years on the executive committee of that association. Attended St. Ann Parish in Cadillac. In his parish, he was a lector, Eucharist minister and lay leader of Sunday celebrations, he served as the treasurer of the Northern Michigan Catholic Foundation for the Gaylord Diocese and was a weekly volunteer at Mercy Hospital and Eucharist Minister to the shut-ins at Green Acres Retirement Home. He was a bow and gun hunter and a skiier. He was a sponsoring member of Ducks Unlimited, serving on the organization's board of directors. Member of the National Rifle Association and served as Vice President of Programming to The Scenic Trails Boy Scout Council, as well Assistant Scoutmaster with the local Boy Scout Troop 125 in Cadillac.
