Biographical Sketch:
Son of Joachim Engel. At 21, he emigrated to America, coming to Detroit, MI, 11/2/1873. While in Detroit, he attended nights schools during the years 1876-7, and in 1878 settled in Delaware Township, Sanilac County. He converted a wild piece of land into a nice farm. He served as Delaware township treasurer, 1885 and 1886. In 1888, he was elected supervisor of said township and held this office for 11 successive years. In 1894 he was elected chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Sanilac County; was appointed US Census Enumerator in 1900, and also acted in that capacity at the last State census.

Notable Facts:
Emigrated with a large group of Germans shortly before the fire of 1881. They formed what was referred to as the "Saxon colony" in Delaware Township. Died of cancer of the stomach.
