Biographical Sketch:
James Dockeray came to the US in 1838 and settled in Albion, NY. He worked as a day laborer while studying and practicing surveying. He settled on a farm in Cannon, MI in 1846. In Cannon, he served as Supervisor for the next 16 years. In 1874, Dockeray moved to Rockford, MI where he owned the Exchange Bank. He served one term as County Surveyor. He was a Democrat until 1856 and then became a Republican.
