Biographical Sketch:
His father was a native of Detroit but was drafted by the British to fight in the War of 1812 but deserted and brcame a scout for the US. Levi was born on the River Thames in Canada in 1812 or 1813; he came to Detroit as a boy, was apprenticed as a tanner at age 15 and started his own business. He served as member of the Board of Education of the city of Detroit for anumber of years. He was superintendent of the Detroit Leather Co. from 1876-87
