Biographical Sketch:
Son of James W. [or Walter] and Clarissa (Williams) Ames. He was apprenticed to learn the cooper's trade at 11. He completed his training at 17. Came to Michigan in June, 1894. He was a member of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors for 26 years, and served 19 years as chief diagnostician for the Detroit Board of Health. He was also a member of the Wayne County Medical society and was affiliated with various other professional and fraternal organizations.

Notable Facts:
He sponsored the first bill for a free hospital in the City of Detroit and formed the Dunbar Hospital in Detroit, 1918. Listed as mulatto on the 1920 US Census. Presidential elector for MI in 1924 Died of heart disease
