Biographical Sketch:
Son of James W. [or Walter] and Clarissa (Williams) Ames. He was apprenticed to learn the cooper's trade at 11. He completed his training at 17. Came to Michigan in June, 1894. He was a member of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors for 26 years, and served 19 years as chief diagnostician for the Detroit Board of Health. He was also a member of the Wayne County Medical society and was affiliated with various other professional and fraternal organizations.
Notable Facts:
He sponsored the first bill for a free hospital in the City of Detroit and formed the Dunbar Hospital in Detroit, 1918.
Listed as mulatto on the 1920 US Census.
