Biographical Sketch:
Son of Horace and Sarah (Whitney) McNitt. He farmed in Fayette Co., IL for 6 years but returned to Kent Co., MI to open a mercantile. In 1880, he opened stores in Wexford Co. in Haring, Round Lake and Jennings and conducted business for 8 years. He later opened a store in Cadillac, operating there until 1892 when he purchased a farm in Haring, raising cattle and dairy farming. He served in several Haring Township offices

Notable Facts:
Father of Rep. and Sen. H. Earl McNitt. Died from heart disease.
