Biographical Sketch:
Son of Erastus P. and Jane (Miller). His family moved to Branch County, MI, and then to Danby, Ionia County around 1855. At 14, they moved to Portland, MI. Began teaching in the district schools at about 16. He studied law with A. Williams of Ionia, and was admitted to the bar in 1874. He continued to teach for a time at the Union school of Sheridan but began practicing law there in 1875. He moved to Stanton in December 1876. There he served as township and city clerk; city attorney and circuit court commissioner. From 1881-85, he was prosecuting attorney of Montcalm County. Upon the expiration of his legislative term, he moved to Muskegon and engaged in business for 2 or 3 years. Afterward, he moved to Grand Rapids. He moved to Mt. Pleasant around 1904.established a gas plant at Mt. Pleasant: he was secretary-treasurer and general manager of the Mt. Pleasant Light and Fuel Company He no longer practiced law.

Notable Facts:
Find-a-Grave says he is buried in Oakhill Cemetery, Grand Rapids; death certificate says he was taken to Mt. Pleasant.
