Biographical Sketch:
Of Irish and English descent. Son of John C. Gill. He enlisted under James B. Steadman, 4.21.1861; later enlisting in the 25th Ohio V.V. infantry. After the Civil War he was made master of transportation for the coast division at Orangeburg, SC. In 1878, he went to California and took part in the agitation for adoption of the new constitution, and at last returned to Michigan and settled in Grand Rapids.
