Biographical Sketch:
Of English descent. Son of Edward H. & Rebecca (Griswold) Barber. Moved to Vermontville, MI, 1839. After serving a year as clerk in the Kalamazoo postoffice, he sailed around Cape Horn in 1850. He worked in mines in Calif. for 2 yrs. On returning to Vermontville and became a mercant; in 1871 he went into banking. Postmaster for 11 yrs. (1861-72.) Held several local positions.
