He moved to Michigan in 1838. He became a merchant and farmer in Grand Blanc, where he was living at the time of his marriage in Detroit. he was postmaster for 20 years. He went to the Civil War as a sutler for the 30th Iowa. His brother was a colonel there. He was taken ill at Vicksburg and died on his way home to Cairo, MI.
