Son of Stephen & Abigail Emeline (Phelps) Collier. Attended the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, Lima, NY. Moved to Michigan 9/28/1835 settling 1st near Battle Creek & later Barry Co.. Briefly sheriff of Barry Co. Moved back to Battle Creek, 1847. Had a hardware business for 15 yrs. Mayor of Battle Creek, 1875. Regent of the State U. at Ann Arbor, 1877Pres. of the 1st National Bank of Battle Creek.
