Son of Elijah and Elizabeth (Randelor Crandal)) Case. He visited Michigan in October, 1829 but returned to New York. He moved to Jackson, MI in 1834 with his law mentor William Moody, with whom he had studied law in Penfield, NY. In 1836 he went to Louisiana and Texas. He returned to settle in Mason, MI in July 1843. He was Ingham Co. prosecuting attorney for 3 terms. In 1845, he started a mercantile business in Mason which he moved to Lansing in 1847. He was a merchant in Portland, MI in 1850. He served as Auditor General, 1859-61. From 1864-through the end of the Civil War, he was appointed paymaster for the army with the rank of major. He was a redident manager and a trustee of the Institute for the Blind in Lansing. he was a member of the Masons
Notable Facts:
His father had moved the family to Canada but, upon the outbreak of the War of 1812, returned to the States after the British confiscated all of his property.
